Back to more travel oriented topics with a small break in Sweden.
Stockholm is a pleasant town, maybe a little austere but is
beautifully located in the heart of an archipelago of thousands of
islands and islets granite. It is also a maritime museum more or less
informal, but with numerous boats seaworthy and most famous among them
who made a career for as short a warship the Vasa. it has indeed sailed
for the first time and sank after a navigation of 1200m on 10 August
1628. A visit to the museum that houses the vessel refloated in the
early 60s is a must to visit the Swedish capital.
But
back to the subject of the article. Stockholm is situated at the end of
a real maze of channels carved granite islands between the Baltic Sea.
There are only 2 roads that can reach the open sea from the port of
Stockholm and each contains passages of less than 500m wide. Ie it was
totally impossible to take the Swedes by surprise, even well before the
invention of radar.
Today these islands used before vacation (summer houses or sommerhus) and sometimes it permanently resides in fine weather.
